The Interplay of Food & Cultural Identity
Students were introduced to the concept of cultural influences in regards to food options, selections, preparations and preferences, as well as the ways in which food can come to represent certain aspects of a given culture. Students were challenged to approach these ideas in a hands-on way through an exercise which asks them to explore and experiment with the way Suzanne Collins, author of the popular "Hunger Games" trilogy, makes use of bread to help define and characterize the distinctly different districts of her fictional country, "Panem."
